Environmental Determinism is the belief that a physical environment affects social and cultural development. For example if you live in a place such as NYC, it is very fast paced and it is like a rat race. People do not have as much time to socialize or unwind, because they are constantly working or doing other things. In a much slower paced environment, such as most places down south, people have a lot more time to socialize and relax.

“Explain the concept of Environmental Determinism, and give one example.”

Environmental determinism is the theory that cultural physical and social life is shaped and dependent upon the environment. Isn’t it though? Everything people do is because of the way their life is built around them; sort of something similar to the broken windows theory. People live in igloos in colder parts of the world. Some live in huts in warmer climates and live off of the land. Like those who reside in the Amazon forest and depend on the river to survive for food and water. Life is dependent upon your environment.
